I studied Modern Standard Arabic Egyptian 1-4.  This included learning both the Egyptian dialect of Arabic and the formal Arabic.  I am considered proficient in this dialect of the Arabic language.

Language connects you to others.  We often overlook the importance of communication, but it is absolutely crucial in order to relate to others and that’s what humanity is all about.  We connect to others when we can communicate and knowing how to do that is crucial.  Learning a second language helps express our feelings, desires, and queries to those around us, and opens up our opportunities.  This unique ability of humans is a large part of what allows us to form bonds with other humans.  Additionally, the ability to communicate is increasingly important in our global business and economic community.  I have had the great fortune to visit Egypt and being able to communicate to the people around me greatly enhanced my experience and appreciation of the country.  In contrast, when studying in Cuba, with very little experience in the Spanish language, I found myself actively seeking ways to teach myself in order to communicate with those around me.  In this way, we learn from those around us, creating even more importance in language.
