Co-Curricular Engagement on Campus

I was a member of Pitt’s branch of Global Environmental Brigades from September 2015 until December 2017 as their fundraising and business manager.  During my time as business manager I organized multiple fundraisers on campus to raise money for our initiatives.  On a local level, we were committed to educating students about the need for sustainability on campus, and reducing our carbon footprint on campus.  Globally, we focus on Eastern Panama, with much of our work occurring in the indigenous communities of Piriati Embera and Embera Peru, by way of implementing reforestation strategies, building greenhouses, and education of waste management and sustainable agriculture.

Additionally, I was a part of Pitt Environmental Action Coalition (PEAC).  PEAC focused on sustainability on campus and creating eco-friendly alternatives to normally environmental damaging options.  We worked alongside other environmental groups on campus to create both social and environmental change in the larger Pittsburgh community.

Community Engagement

Growing up I attended St. Bede School, in Point Breeze, and was an active member with them, including being a basketball player.  When I was in college and the 3rd grade girls team was looking for a new coach, they reached out to me.  I followed the same group of girls for four years as their head coach.  I developed plays, lead practices, created tournaments, and coached games.  Over the course of the four years I became very close to the team and celebrated all the little victories, from the first basket to the first win, and it became a very important part of my community engagement.

I also was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Service Fraternity as of September 2015.  Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) works to fundraise around Pittsburgh for initiatives on campus, but primarily for their main philanthropy, St. Jude.  ESA is an international leadership and service organization that empowers the members to change the lives of others, as well their own.  We spent countless hours cleaning garbage off of the streets of Pittsburgh for a more sustainable future, canning outside of sporting event to raise money for philanthropies, and meeting to discuss global current events, and how we can best serve.
