Biomedical Engineering Society

Throughout my four years here at Pitt, I have been a board member of the Biomedical Engineering Society. We provide networking opportunities for bioengineering students, as well career advice and social events. I have also brought bioengineering students to volunteer at the Walk to Defeat ALS, which I helped to organize as part of the ALS Association. However, my most cherished memories come from our outreach efforts. Nearly every week, we would attend or host science and engineering outreach programs; we would introduce bioengineering concepts to young children, focusing on girls and underrepresented minorities in engineering. Although not directly related to global health, it was fantastic to encourage enthusiasm for science and engineering, especially among underprivileged communities. It was our small part towards creating a more equitable world.
