Research

I completed research in the Psychology Department since my sophomore year. I started out in Dr. Edward Orehek’s Social Life and Motivation Lab. I was introduced to the intricacies of research and assisted primarily with data collection. Then I moved to Dr. Irene Frieze’s Feelings About Home Lab. Starting with an exploratory study over the summer, during the fall we were able to conduct a study looking at student’s feelings about their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. We found that the student’s feeling of comfortability was the highest correlate with feeling at home. I presented a poster at the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in February, 2021 about our project. Lastly, I’m working on my Honors thesis with Dr. Kevin Binning. My thesis is titled Going to College during a Pandemic: How does social support moderate the relationship between student’s feelings about COVID-19 and their academic achievement? I’ve done most of the work independently for this project. I conducted a literature review, created the Qualtrics survey, and am currently in the data analysis phase of the project. All of my research experiences have been extremely insightful and will be invaluable when I go off to graduate school in the fall.
