I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience, while minoring in Spanish and Religious Studies. Additionally, I am working towards the Global Studies Certificate, with a concentration in Cultural Dynamics. One of my priorities in college has been to merge my science curriculum with my education in the humanities. As an aspiring physician, I really enjoy studying the cellular mechanisms that allow us to function and the ways in which in their dysregulation can impact us and our health. However, throughout my time at Pitt, I have also realized that what I want from a career in Healthcare goes far beyond the scientific and medicinal realm. I love learning about people – where someone comes from, what drives his/her beliefs, what motivates him/her. In my eyes, having a global mindset and focus is not solely about that one trip abroad. It is about recognizing the differences between cultures and religions, and celebrating them! In a Healthcare context, being able to understand the perspectives of individuals who are different from us allows us to connect and empathize with patients, improving the vital relationships between doctors and their patients.
