Global Hub Ambassador

University Center for International Studies: Global Hub

The Global Hub is a new space on Pitt’s campus which serves as a one-stop shop for students looking to incorporate globally-minded or internationally-focused programs into their education. A variety of student organizations and academic departments host programs here including language conversation tables, drop-in advising hours, study abroad information sessions, speakers, musicians, and many more. The Hub also has interactive digital screens: one which helps you to find opportunities that fit with your interests and one that displays video footage and facts about a different country every hour. As a Global Hub Ambassador, my main job is to be present in this space to engage with students who visit the Hub and to connect them with international opportunities whether that be a certificate program or a study abroad trip. I also help organize the logistics for the programs that happen at the Global Hub, and I help to create new content for the digital screens. This job has really enhanced my global education at Pitt because I have gotten to interact with a wide variety of people and I have gotten to share my own experiences with them.

Resident Assistant

Office of Residence Life

I was a Resident Assistant in Tower A which is a first-year residence hall for two academic years and one summer. I lived on a floor with 38 first-year female residents to help them transition to college life so that they could be happy, healthy, and successful at Pitt.  I was responsible for enforcing the student code of conduct, mediating any conflicts that arose, frequently checking in with residents to make sure they were doing okay, planning floor programs which were social and beneficial, and creating an overall sense of community on the floor. It is a very demanding, but also a very rewarding job. I was very busy and had to navigate several conflicts and incidents over the years, but I learned so many critical life skills including interpersonal communication, problem solving, time management, conflict management, and many more.
