Arabic Club

Arabic club was a place for me to connect with other students interested in learning Arabic. There I could use my skills to help others with their learning but also give advice about studying abroad—especially because I was one of the few people from our university who studied abroad in Jordan. This meant I had to be able to express the endless anecdotes I could tell about my Arabic learning experience and my time in Jordan in a concise and useful manner. I also had to be objective and understand which aspects of my experience could translate to others and which were uniquely mine.

University of Pittsburgh Club Gymnastics Team

As a member of the Pitt Club Gymnastics team I could continue my life long hobby of gymnastics while joining a close-knit team on campus. Besides being a great way to relive stress and enjoy times with friends, the team also taught me about taking initiative to fundraise and how to organize for large groups of people. Because as a club team we get minimal university funding, most of the funding for our meets (especially our national competition) needed to come from us and thus, I quickly learned the various fundraising strategies and how to make it fun for everyone. While at our national competitions, I was responsible for organizing many of the meals for the team which meant learning to plan ahead and make decisions that worked for everyone.
