Local/Global Community Engagement

My Jewish identity has always been an important aspect of who I am, and a way for me to connect with communities all over the world. On campus at Pitt, I was able to find this community through my involvement in Alpha Epsilon Pi, the Jewish fraternity on campus. As the organizations Philanthropy Chair in Fall 2018, I worked to use the Jewish values of “kehila kedosha” (“holy community”) and “tikkun olam” (“repair the world”) as a charge for community engagement with my organization. That semester was a reminder that things that happen locally have global implications, and vice versa. We participated in PittServes days of service, and planned a weeklong philanthropic event that partnered with other greek organizations on campus to raise funds and spread love after the Tree of Life shooting in Squirrel Hill.
