Korean Language Proficiency Level: Advanced Low (ACTFL)

I have completed numerous projects in translation and language proficiency demonstration as a student and as an independent professional in recent years.

In each project, I aim to provide professional and accurate translation services, and often give consultations on how to best adapt content for a foreign audience from a cultural and linguistic standpoint.

Publication of Korea Today Newsletter

This newsletter was published as the final project in the Fourth Year Korean course at the East Asian Languages & Literatures Department in the University of Pittsburgh. Select articles from this publication are available on the Publications page. Articles include both original pieces on current events and translations of major news site content.

Interpreter for Pittsburgh Trust for Cultural Resources and Bereishit Dance Company

I led a team of interpreters made of of students from the University of Pittsburgh to provide interpretation services for Bereishit Dance Company’s performance at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh. Tasks which required interpretation between the American theater staff and Korean performers included light design, sound engineering, backstage setup, and communication with Pittsburgh Dance Council executives.

Translation of Asian Studies Center Promotional Materials

As an intern at the Asian Studies Center, I translated promotional information about the Center and its programs from English to Korea.

Contract Negotiation for the Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society

As the only Korean-speaking staff member, I led the negotiations and finalization of the guest contract for a Korean clothing designer, Haenuli, to appear at our flagship convention Tekko in 2017. Additionally, I managed the efforts to recruit multiple Korean/English translators to assist the guest during her stay in Pittsburgh.

Independent Translation Work

I have had the opportunity to put my Korean skills to use on numerous independent translation and supervision projects. Some examples include:

  • Supervising and editing academic papers written by native Korean speakers in English and offering suggestion for improvements in grammar and sentence structure.
  • Translating sections of academic papers in the fields of business strategy, marketing, and economics.
  • Translating promotional materials or content for business events or conferences in Korea targeted at English-speakers.
