Spanish: Intermediate Level

My coursework in the Spanish language was perhaps the most challenging of almost all of my classes at Pitt. The Spanish language classes demanded a significant time commitment each week. In some cases class would be meet five days a week. In addition to classwork, there was a lot of outside-the-classroom work to do in the form of essays, exercises, and speaking tests. The level of work demanded was extremely helpful in allowing me to pick up the language as quick as I did in just five semesters. I don’t regret for a minute my decision to study Spanish or the amount of time and effort I put into learning it. My newly acquired skills made my study abroad experience even more meaningful. It allowed me to communicate and connect with people I never would have been able to without knowing their language. It also allowed me to work in a professional setting in Buenos Aires. I was able to complete an internship with a local NGO which operated entirely in Spanish. Without my language coursework, this and many other experiences would have been missed out on.
