Language and Linguistics

As a linguistics student, my language studies have been central to my university experience. In addition to learning the processes and theories across different sub-fields in linguistics, I have had the opportunity to learn from language professors from across the world and communicate with students who studied at Pitt in both Spanish and Korean.

Although studying two foreign languages at the same time can sometimes be confusing, learning such distinct languages spoken in different parts of the world was rewarding in the context of global studies. While learning about the history and societies of some of the places these languages are spoken, I was able to learn from a different perspective about my own nation’s history and influence on these places.

Language Teaching

One of my interests within linguistics is Second Language Acquisition. Learning two completely different languages as a native English speaker has helped me understand better the process of acquisition and given me more tools to help my future students.

In the future I hope to use my language abilities to confidently live abroad and become more integrated into the target culture

If you did a translation, or a project you want to highlight, this might be a good spot to talk about it.
